Mankato, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran College Volleyball team split their first two home matches. They won their first match against the Martin Luther College Knights 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-20) and then they lost their second match against the U of M Morris Cougars 1-3(11-25, 25-18, 18-25, 18-25). The two matches set the Vikings record at 4-9 and a conference record of 2-2.
First, the Vikings went up against MLC and won in a sweep. The Vikings started out the first set down 11-5, but rallied back to win behind a 16-9 kill advantage. Overall, the Vikings had a 33-28 advantage in kills. The Vikings were led by
Megan Rutt with 12 kills,
Kalli Mathiasen with 25 assists, and
Megan Rutt, Mindy Poehler, and
Haley Domonoske all recorded 2 blocks.
During the second match, the Vikings kept it close but weren't able to pull away with the victory. They ended up losing 3-1 and had 34 kills to the Cougars 45. The Vikings were led in that match by
Megan Rutt with 12 kills,
Kalli Mathiasen with 30 assists, and
Mindy Poehler with 3 blocks.
