DULUTH, Minn. – The BLC volleyball team fell to 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the UMAC after losing to #25 Northwestern and St. Scholastica.
In match one, the Vikings faced off against the 25th ranked team in the country. The Vikings put up a good fight against the Eagles in the first set, matching them point for point. The score was tied at 23-23 before the Eagles put the first set away. The Vikings could not recapture the momentum and lost in three sets (23-25, 12-25, 18-25).
Megan Rutt and
Natasha Young both had 10 kills for the Vikings.
Mindy Poehler had four blocks at the net,
Kalli Mathiasen led the way with 19 assists, and
Mackenna Hinz and
Brianna Waknitz had 10 digs apiece.
In match two, BLC played the host school College of St. Scholastica. The Vikings lost the first two sets quickly before regrouping for the third. The Vikings held a slight lead throughout most of the third set, but a late rally by the Saints turned the momentum around. The Saints edged out the Vikings in three sets (13-25, 15-25, 23-25). Kalli Mathiasen had a match-high 23 assists and Mindy Poehler recorded a match-high four blocks.
Up next: The Vikings will be on the road for two more UMAC matches on Wednesday, September 26 in Ashland, Wisconsin. BLC will play Northland and Crown.
