Ashland, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings volleyball team got their 4th and 5th wins in a double header, with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) win over Northland College and a 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-21) victory over Crown College . The victories move the Vikings' record to 6-11, with a 4-4 conference record.
In the first match against Northland, the Vikings were able to record 5 blocks to Northland's 2 and 27 assists to Northland's 21. The Vikings were aided by multiple runs in each set: a 5-0 run in the first set, a 15-7 run in the second set, and a 4-2 run in the third set. The Vikings were led by
Natasha Young with 7 kills,
Kalli Mathiasen with 25 assists, and
Mindy Poehler with 3 blocks.
The Vikings came out quick in the second match, going on a 21-9 run in the first set; and the Vikings were able to get 12 kills to Corwn's 4. In the second set, the Vikings and Crown College came out tied 25-25, and then a 3-1 run by the Vikings put them over the top 28-26. In the third and final set, the Vikings and Crown College went back and forth, and the Vikings were down 18-20. Then, a 6-1 run helped cement the Vikings' 25-21 victory. The Vikings were led by
Megan Rutt with 14 kills,
Mindy Poehler with 11 kills, and
Kalli Mathiasen with 27 assists.
