Pella, IA. – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings volleyball team lost both of their matches in the back half of their second weekend, moving their record to 2-6.
The first match was against the Millikin University Big Blue (3-2), which the Vikings lost 0-3 (13-25, 16-25, 21-25). The stats for each team were fairly close; 21 kills for the Vikings against Millikin's 29, 4 Viking aces to 8 Millikin aces, both teams recorded 5 blocks, and the Vikings had 39 digs to Millikin's 38. The main problem came from small runs from each set. In the first, Millikin got out to a 14-7 lead, ending the second on a 12-3 run, and a 9-4 run in the middle of the third set. The Viking's were lead by Megan Rutt with 10 kills and 3 blocks and Kalli Mathiasen with 14 assists.
The Vikings lost the second match 1-3 to Central College (24-26, 26-28, 25-20, 21-25). The Vikings offense matched Central's; recording 43 kills to Central's 45 and both teams scored 62 points. The Vikings also had 15 aces to Central's 9, and 4 blocks to Central's 8. The Vikings were lead by Megan Rutt with 15 kills and 47 total attacks and Brittany Sanders with 16 assists.
Up next: The Vikings will play Buena Vista University on Tuesday, September 11th at 7:00 P.M. in Storm Lake Iowa.
