MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team (9-14 overall) avenged another earlier season loss, this one against Buena Vista (9-12) 3-2 Wednesday on its home court. The Vikings are now 4-2 this year in five-set matches.
The teams traded set victories as BLC won the first and third frames and the Beavers claimed the even sets to force a fifth set.
The Vikings jumped to an 8-4 lead in the final set as the team switched sides. BV answered with a three-point rally to slice the margin to one at 8-7. The set was later tied at 12 all and 13 all. A block from Domonoske and Rutt and kill by Domonoske would seal the victory.
Bethany had a trio of players with double digit kills as seniors Megan Rutt (Le Center, Minn.), Mindy Poehler (Nicollet, Minn.) and Haley Domonoske (Waterville, Minn.) had 16, 12, and 10, respectively.
Junior Brittany Sanders (St. James, Minn.) recorded a career-high 48 assists and senior Veeva Lee (St. Paul) also had a career-best 38 digs.
Three other players finished with double digit digs as Rutt had 26, senior Kalli Mathiasen (St. Cloud, Minn.) had 20 and junior Bethany Karnopp (Goodhue, Minn.) had 11.
BLC owned the team advantages in service aces (11-4) and the team blocks were even at five all.
The Vikings take to the road for their next three games as they will first face UW-Superior Saturday at 3 p.m.
