Vikings lose two games to Dubuque

TUCSON, AZ – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team played against the University of Dubuque last season in the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Vikings found themselves matched up against the Spartans on day two of their spring trip, looking to get some traction in the 2019 season, but were unable to pick up a win in either game. The Vikings lost to the Spartans 19-9 in game one and 12-5 in game two.

Trailing 7-0, Ross Beumer helped the Vikings find their way into the scoring column in the fourth inning with a double, scoring two runs. The hit sparked an eight-run rally for the Vikings capped off with a grand slam from Ben Boran. The rally helped the Vikings take an 8-7 lead, but the Spartans responded with 12 unanswered runs spread out between the fifth and sixth inning. The Vikings would score one more run in the ballgame, but lost by a final score of 19-9.

Boran helped the Vikings take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, scoring Grant Becher. The Spartans responded with eight runs spread out between the second, third, and fourth inning to take the lead. The Vikings got good offensive play from Ross Beumer who went 3-4 with two runs and Grant Becher who went 4-4 with two triples and two runs. Brady Schuster was 3-3 with two RBIs and Ben Boran was 2-4 with two RBIs. Altogether, the Vikings tallied 14 hits in game two, but they couldn't match the run-power of the Spartans, falling 12-5.
