ROCHESTER, MN – The Bethany Lutheran Vikings softball team spent the day at the ACM Softball Classic taking on some good competition. The Vikings played UW-River Falls in their first game of the day and won 2-0. They followed with a game against 10th ranked Luther College and won by a score of 5-4 in eight innings. Luther finished the 2018 season with 43 wins and was one game away from playing for a national championship.
Bria Majeski picked up her second win of the season with a complete game shutout of the Falcons. In seven innings of work, she gave up just five hits while striking out seven. She got some good help from her defense as the Vikings committed no errors.
The Vikings scored in the top of the first inning on a ground out to short from Eden Ambrose which brought Shelby Bloemendaal home. Bloemendaal was 1-1 at the plate with an RBI. Her RBI came in the fifth inning with a single to center field which scored Jasmine Bejarano. The Vikings spread out four hits in the game between Bloemendaal, Haylee Sobrero, Julia Pfeiffer, and Zoe Kinakin. Sobrero and Kinakin both recorded doubles.
Shelby Bloemendaal stepped up to the challenge in game two as the Vikings took on the Norse. She pitched eight innings on the way to her second win of the season. Once again the Vikings defense was huge, giving Bloemendaal the support she needed.
The Vikings grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first with an RBI double from Haylee Sobrero who was 2-4 in the game with one RBI and one run. Sobrero's double scored Kaylee Mork for the first run of the game. Jenna Reynolds then delivered one of her two hits in the game to score Sobrero for the second run. Luther took control of the game with four runs in the third inning, but the Vikings responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra play. In the eighth inning, it was Jenna Reynolds who delivered the game-winning hit and Morgan Mashlan who scored the winning run. Reynolds was 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Eden Ambrose was key in the win for BLC as she was 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
