Vikings baseball extend streak to five games

Mankato, MN.  –  The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings baseball team beat the Martin Lutheran College Knights in a UMAC conference showcase, sweeping the Knights 10-3 in the first game and 23-5 in the second game. The wins puts the Vikings record at 16-13 and their conference record at 10-2.

The Vikings started out scoring in the first game, scoring two runs in the first inning. Neither team would end up scoring in the second inning, and then Tim Pasiuk and Grant Becher would both hit multi-run RBI's in the bottom of the third inning to put the Vikings up 7-0. Tim Pasiuk would have another RBI in the fifth, and the Vikings would go into the sixth inning up 9-0. The Knights would try to fight back, but were only able to score one run before the Vikings were able to end the top of the sixth inning. The Vikings would top things off in the eighth scoring their tenth run, and although the Knights would try to fight back, it wouldn't be enough to overcome the 7 point finishing gap.

The Knights would put up a little more offensive in the second game, and the Vikings only had a 4-3  lead going into the fourth inning. Then, the Vikings would score 19 runs in two innings, including a three-run homerun by Jared Gesell to top off the fifth inning. The Knights would put up two more runs in the next inning, but it wouldn't be enough and the Vikings won 23-5.

Up next: The Vikings host a double header against St. Olaf on Thursday, April 25th with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m.
