Bethany splits with Northwestern

ST. PAUL, MN – The Bethany Lutheran Vikings and University of Northwestern Eagles took to the diamond on Tuesday morning for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) double-header. The Eagles defended their home-field in game one, winning 6-5. The Vikings bounced back in game two with a 5-2 win.
 
The Vikings took an early 1-0 lead when Ben Boran hit an RBI single up the middle to score Grant Becher. Anthony Radloff started on the mound for the Vikings, going 2.1 innings and giving up seven hits and five runs. Beau Babcock kept the Vikings steady in 3.1 innings of work, giving up just two hits and zero runs. Trailing 5-3 in the fifth, the Vikings tied the game with runs by Ben Boran and Cody Schuster. Logan Nissen entered with the game tied and pitched a total of 2.1 innings. The Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning and would go on to win 6-5. Grant Becher delivered a great performance of 3-4 with a triple and two runs. Nick Caldeen went 3-5 with a double.
 
The Vikings bounced back with 12 hits in game two compared to just four for the Eagles. Cody Ulfers was 3-4 with one run and one RBI. The Vikings were held scoreless through six innings, but then broke loose for four runs in the seventh, capped by a two-run homer from Ben Boran. Adam Fjerstad was a stud in six innings of work, holding the Eagles scoreless and giving up just two hits. Colton Blain, Beau Babcock, and Dallas McBroom finished the job for the Vikings, sealing a 5-2 win.
