PLATTEVILLE, Wis.- The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team (4-7 overall) snapped Olivet's eight-match winning streak and handed the Comets their first loss of the season in the five-set thriller Friday night at UW-Platteville's Invite.
The teams traded set victories to force a deciding fifth frame. The score was tied at 4-4 until the Vikings compiled a three-point run to lead 7-4. BLC later led 11-7 and won the next four points to claim the contest.
Four Vikings tallied double digit kills as senior Megan Rutt (Le Center, Minn.) had 14, classmate Mindy Poehler (Nicollet, Minn.) had 12, freshman Kasidy Cacka (Brownton, Minn.) recorded a career-high 11 and classmate Alexis Morsching (Morristown, Minn.) had a career-best 10.
Junior Brittany Sanders (St. James, Minn.) had 21 assists and senior Kalli Mathiasen (St. Cloud, Minn.) had 17 as they ran the offense.
A trio of players finished with double digit digs as senior Veeva Lee (St. Paul) had 25, freshman Sarah Strom (Mankato, Minn.) had 11 and Mathiasen recorded a double-double with 10.
As a team, BLC owned the advantages in kills, hitting percentage, assists, digs, and blocks.
The Vikings fell 3-0 to Wisconsin Lutheran in the first match of the day.
Bethany Lutheran returns to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Augustana (Ill.).
