STORM LAKE, Iowa – Freshman Alexis Morsching (Morristown, Minn.) had a career-high 15 kills and 20 digs in Bethany Lutheran's (5-10 overall) 3-2 loss to Buena Vista (3-9) Saturday.
The teams traded sets to force a deciding frame.
The score in the fifth set remained close until BV took the 7-6 lead and scored the next two points to take the three-point lead.
BLC used a Morsching kill and a BV hitting error to cut the margin to one at 9-8. BV answered with a three-point run to take the 12-9 lead. Buena Vista earned the match victory on a kill from Katie Serkiz.
Senior Megan Rutt (Le Center, Minn.) joined Morsching in double digits with 16 kills and added 10 digs.
Classmate Veeva Lee (St. Paul) had 28 digs, just one shy of her career-best and added three aces from the service line.
Sophomore Arissa Wilson (Eyota, Minn.) and freshman Amia Broughten (Waseca, Minn.) also had career days in the back row with 18 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Vikings owned the advantages in kills, assists, aces, digs, and blocks.
Bethany returns to competition on the road against Waldorf Wednesday at 7 p.m.
