MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team (5-12 overall, 0-1 UMAC) fell 3-0 to Northwestern (8-4, 2-0) Friday night in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener.
The Eagles won 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17.
Senior Megan Rutt (Le Center, Minn.) led the Vikings with 10 kills. Junior Brittany Sanders (St. James, Minn.) tallied 25 assists as she ran the team's offense. Senior Veeva Lee (St. Paul) had 19 digs and added a service ace.
The score of the first set was tied at four all until UNW compiled a six-point run to take the lead for good. BLC jumped to an 8-3 lead in the second frame, but the Eagles scored the next seven straight points to regain the lead at 10-8.
The set was tied four more times, which included 14 all. Northwestern took the next two points to one again take the lead for good.
The teams traded points on service errors to begin the final set as the Eagles later pulled ahead to lead 10-6.
The Vikings return to the court tomorrow (Saturday) against Northland at 3 p.m. to continue their three-game homestand.
