Saint Benedict Sweeps Bethany Lutheran

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn.— The Bethany Lutheran softball team (1-3 overall) was swept by Saint Benedict (2-0) Thursday night at the SJU Dome.

The Bennies won the opener 10-2 in five innings and the finale, 9-1, also in five innings.

In the first game, senior Haylee Sobrero (Paradise, Calif.) recorded the first hit, run scored and RBI of the night with her leadoff solo home run. Sophomore Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) scored later in that inning on a passed ball for the Vikings' final run of the game.

Saint Benedict plated six runs in the bottom of the frame on consecutive two-run doubles followed by a two-run homer.

CSB would tally another run in the second, two in the third and one in the fifth to claim the win.

The second game remained scoreless until the third inning as the Bennies scored on an error to take the 1-0 lead. They doubled their margin in the next stanza on a flyout, which made the score 2-0.

BLC got on the board in the fifth as junior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) drove in Kinakin from second on her RBI double.

Saint Benedict tallied seven run in the fifth to earn the shortened win and seal the sweep.

Ambrose led the team at the plate as she went 2-3 with the aforementioned RBI.

Sophomore Kassidy Cunningham (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) went the distance in the circle for the second time this season in her second-straight start.

BLC returns to action Saturday when it hosts Buena Vista in a twinbill at the MSU Dome with first pitch at 7 p.m.
