DUNDAS, Minn.— The Bethany Lutheran softball team (2-6 overall) dropped both games of its doubleheader to Hamline (2-0) in the Dundas Dome Wednesday night. The Pipers won the opener 9-2 and the finale, 2-0.
The Vikings were the first team on the board in the opener as sophomore Kassidy Cunningham (Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) drove in junior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) on her single up the middle for the 1-0 lead.
The Pipers answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame and played five in the third to jump to a 7-1 lead.
Cunningham drove in the final run for BLC in the fourth inning as freshman Liz Milam (Le Sueur, Minn.) scored on her double down the leftfield line. Hamline plated its final two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run.
Sophomore Anna Hoffman (Watertown, SD) was 2-2 at the plate and Cunningham was 2-3 with two RBIs.
The Pipers were the visitors in the second game and tallied two in the first on a triple followed by a groundout.
Senior Haylee Sobrero (Paradise, Calif.) hit a leadoff single, moved to second on sophomore Zoe Kinakin's (Victoria, British Columbia) bunt, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, that was the furthest a Viking baserunner would reach for the rest of the game.
Cunningham threw her third complete game of the season and struck out two in the outing.
BLC returns to competition Saturday when it hosts UW-River Falls in a twinbill in the MSU Dome at 7 p.m.
