MANKATO, Minn.— The Bethany Lutheran softball team (4-6 overall) swept UW-River Falls (0-2) Saturday night. The Vikings won the opener 12-4 in five innings, and the finale, 6-4.
In the first contest, the Falcons took the 3-0 lead in the second before Bethany used a five-run third inning to pull ahead 5-3.
BLC plated another five runs in the fourth thanks in part to a two-run triple from sophomore Anna Hoffman (Watertown, SD).
UW-River Falls tallied one in the fifth until junior Tara George (Cottonwood, Calif.) sealed the run-win victory on her two-run single in the bottom of the frame.
George went 3-4 with four RBIs while Hoffman was 3-3 with two RBIs and junior Taylor Kottke (Maple Grove, Minn.) was also 3-3 with three runs scored.
In the finale, Bethany took the early 1-0 lead as senior Haylee Sobrero (Paradise, Calif.) scored on George's double. The Falcons evened the game in their next at-bats before sophomore Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) drove in three runs on her double to make it 4-1.
UWRF plated one in the third and fifth innings to tie it up once more.
In the sixth, Hoffman drove in Cunningham on her sac fly and junior Morgan Mashlan (Brandon, SD) scored from second on Kinakin's single.
Kinakin led the team at the plate in this game as she finished 3-4 with four RBIs.
Sophomore Kassidy Cunningham (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) earned the win and threw another complete game in the circle.
The Vikings are off from competition until its Spring Training trip against Baldwin Wallace on Monday, March 9.
