MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team (5-18 overall, 3-8 UMAC) swept North Central (7-13, 4-6) 3-0 Tuesday (26-24, 25-23, 25-19). The victory split the season series as the Rams won on their home court earlier this month.
Junior Sarah Strom (North Mankato, Minn.) led all hitters with 12 kills. Classmate Alexis Morsching (Morristown, Minn.) followed with eight.
Freshman Megan Gallagher (Jackson, Minn.) had a double double with 29 assists and 10 digs. She added two service aces.
Classmate Maddi Wendland (Arco, Minn.) had 14 digs and three service aces.
The first set was knotted at 24 all but BLC capitalized on an NCU attack error and Wendland service ace to claim that frame.
The second stanza was tied at 22 all, but the Vikings ended on a 3-1 run due to attack errors by the Rams.
In the final set, Bethany led 22-19 and ended the match on four straight-points which included a kill by junior Rilee Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn.) and service ace from freshman Esther Peeters (Maasbree Limburg, The Netherlands).
BLC owned the team advantages in kills, hitting percentage, assists, service aces, and blocks.
Bethany takes to the road this weekend when it travels to face Minnesota Morris Friday at 7 p.m.
