Stockman Ties Single Game School Record With Two Triples

MANKATO, Minn.— Freshman Haley Stockman (Mankato, Minn.) tied the single game school record with two triples in the second game of the Bethany Invitational Saturday against Northwestern. She is the third player in program history to accomplish this feat. The previous two were Susan Hegstrom against North Central on April 25, 2007 and Brittany Rodgers against Northland on April 24, 2009.

The Vikings dropped their opener to Buena Vista 10-0 in five innings, and fell 6-4 to the Eagles in the nightcap.

BV plated four in the first, two in the third, and another four in the fourth. The Vikings tallied three hits, but were unable to bring a runner home.

In the finale, senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) drove in freshman Jenna Wahl (Holmen, Wis.) on her single to right centerfield to give BLC the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. UNW evened the score in the bottom of the frame and added one in the second and three in the third to take the 4-1 lead.

In the fourth, senior Alyssa Kosta (Redding, Calif.) drove in junior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) on her groundout and Stockman plated Ambrose on her first triple of the contest to make it 5-3. In the fifth, Kosta launched one over the left field fence, which sliced the lead to one at 5-4.  Two batters later, Stockman had her second triple but was unfortunately left stranded as the next batter grounded out to end the rally.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles tallied one more on a single to right.

Stockman went 3-3, and Kosta went 1-3 with two RBIs.

Bethany returns to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader against Luther College. First pitch is at 10 a.m.
