MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran baseball team fell to NCAA Division II opponent, Minnesota State, 11-4, Saturday.
The Mavericks took the 2-0 lead in the second on consecutive solo home runs.
Junior Brody Curtiss (Belle Plaine, Minn.) put the Vikings on the board with his solo shot over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the frame to slice the lead to one (2-1).
MSU added one in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth which made it 6-1.
Junior Kaylan Legred (Blue Earth, Minn.) launched a two-run homerun over the left field fence in the fifth to cut the lead to three at 6-3. This was his first career homer at Bethany.
The Mavericks used an RBI triple in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-3.
Junior Carter Wendlandt (Minneapolis) drove in the final run for BLC in the eighth on his groundout that plated classmate Ross Beumer (Northfield, Minn.).
MSU plated four in the top of the ninth and the Vikings were retired in order in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
Wendlandt went 2-4 at the plate.
Bethany returns to action Wednesday when it returns to US Bank Stadium for a doubleheader against St. Olaf at 5 p.m. No spectators will be allowed.
