MINNEAPOLIS—Junior Carter
Wendlandt (Minneapolis) faced two outs with classmate Ross
Beumer (Northfield, Minn.) on second base. His hit landed just over the head of the St. Olaf's
centerfielder for the 7-6
walkoff win in the second game of the twinbill to give Bethany its first win of the season.
In that game, the Oles jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Senior Jake LaBerge (Round Rock, Texas) put BLC on the board with his two-run double down the rightfield line in the bottom of the frame.
Beumer tied it at three all on his RBI double to left center, and continued to swing the hot bat in the fourth on his single up the middle to help the Vikings take the 4-3 lead.
In its next at-bat, St. Olaf tallied three in the fifth to regain the lead at 6-4.
In the seventh, BLC plated two, which included a two-out RBI double from freshman Ben Hopper (North Mankato, Minn.). The next batter was retired to force the game into extra innings.
The Oles were retired in order in the top of the eighth, which gave Bethany another trip to the plate.
In the first game, St. Olaf took the 1-0 lead in the third on a sacrifice fly and added two in the fifth on a single to right field. The Oles used a five-run sixth inning to extend their margin to 7-0.
LaBerge ended the shutout on his single in the top of the seventh to score Beumer.
The Vikings return to the field Saturday when they host St. John's in a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
