MANKATO, Minn. – UW-Superior won 3-1 Saturday. The YellowJackets took the first two sets, 25-23, and 25-19, the Vikings won the third set 25-21, and UWS claimed the fourth set 25-17 for the victory.
In the first set, the Jackets took an early 11-5 lead, but BLC came back to tie the score at 19 all. UWS later led 24-21, but the Vikings were able to fight off set point twice to make it a one-point margin (24-23). A Viking attack error gave UWS the first set win.
The second set was also tied at 18-18, until the Jackets used a 7-1 run to earn that victory.
In the third frame, BLC trailed 10-9, until senior
Bethany Karnopp (Albuquerque, NM) served the next eight points for the 17-10 lead. UWS answered with a six-point run of its own to slice the lead to one (17-16).
Bethany would later win the set on a UWS attack error and block from Kaylee Glomstad and Kasidy Cacka.
In the fourth set, the Jackets took an 11-8 lead and never looked back.
Sophomore Alexis Morsching (Morristown, Minn.) had 14 kills and classmate Karlee Thiesse (Welcome, Minn.) had a career-high 12. Sophomore Cheyenne Owens (Truman, Minn.) had a career-high 38 assists and Karnopp led the team with 10 digs and four service aces.
Bethany returns to the court Thursday when it hosts Crown at 7 p.m.
