Vikings Split With Cobbers

MANKATO, Minn.— Bethany Lutheran (4-8 overall) split with Concordia College (Minn.) (3-3) Tuesday afternoon. The Cobbers won the opener 4-1, but the Vikings claimed the finale, 10-5.

In the opener, freshman Haley Stockman (Mankato, Minn.) gave BLC the early lead in the bottom of the first on her triple to rightfield which scored senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.).

The Cobbers evened the game in their next at-bats and this remained the score until the sixth when they plated three to take the 4-1 lead.

Stockman went 2-3 with her aforementioned triple.

In the second game, it was Concordia that took the early 3-0 lead in its first inning. Freshman Ana Christofferson (Mankato, Minn.) drove in junior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) and Stockman later scored on a wild pitch to slice the margin to one (3-2).

In the third, senior Alyssa Kosta (Redding, Calif.) hit a two-run single to left to help the Vikings reclaim the lead at 4-3.

The Cobbers scored the go-ahead run in the next frame on a two-run single to centerfield to make it 5-4.

Bethany tallied four runs in the fourth, which was highlighted by a two-run double by Christofferson to pull ahead 8-5.

Stockman launched a two-run home run over the left field fence in the sixth to make it 10-5.

Stockman and Christofferson both went 2-4. Junior Kassidy Cunningham (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) had the complete game and had a career-high six strikeouts.

BLC is off from competition until its own Vikings Classic on Wednesday, March 17.
