Vikings Sweep YellowJackets

MANKATO, Minn.— The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (5-10 overall, 3-1 UMAC) swept UW-Superior (9-13, 2-4) Saturday. The Vikings won the first game in shutout fashion, 4-0, and claimed the finale 13-2 in seven innings.

The first three runs of the first contest were scored on solo homeruns from freshman Reed Brown () in the second inning, sophomore Liam Peterson and senior Jake LaBerge (Round Rock, Texas) in the sixth innings.

Junior Carter Wendlandt (Minneapolis) drove in junior Ross Beumer (Northfield, Minn.) on his single to left for the final run of the game.

Junior Dallas McBroom (Elysian, Minn.) pitched a career-high 7.2 innings and fanned a career-best 11.

In the finale, BLC took the early 1-0 lead in the second on a bases loaded walk. The Vikings plated three I the third on a sacrifice fly from freshman Ben Hopper (North Mankato, Minn.) and a two-run single from sophomore Hunter Pearce (Berthoud, Colo.).

The YellowJackets tallied their only runs of the day in the fourth, which made it 4-2.

Bethany used a six-run fourth inning to extend its margin. Highlights included a two-run double from LaBerge, who then scored on Pearce's double, and a two-run triple from Beumer. All runs occurred with two outs.

Beumer had a three-run homer in the sixth to make it 13-2.

Junior Conor Merton (Perth, Australia) retired the three batters he faced in the seventh to seal the shorted game win.

Beumer had a career-high six RBI, and was 2-2 with two runs. His RBI total was one shy of the single game school record. LaBerge went 2-3 with three runs and two RBI and Pearce was 2-2 with two run and three RBI.

Sophomore Daniel Salinas (St. Paul) pitched six complete and struck out three.

The Vikings return to the field Tuesday when they travel to face North Central in a doubleheader with first pitch at 1:30 p.m.
