Vikings Sweep Cougars

MORRIS, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (9-13, 6-4) won both games against Minnesota Morris Saturday. BLC won the first meeting 9-6 in 11 innings, and the finale, 6-3.

The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two out, two-run double. The next batter grounded out to send it into extra innings.

In the 11th, junior Ross Beumer (Northfield, Minn.) had an RBI double, and then classmate Carter Wendlandt (Minneapolis) hit a two-run double down the left field line to give the Vikings the 9-6 lead.

Minnesota Morris was unable to compile a rally to give that win to the visitors.

In the second game, the Cougars took the early 1-0 lead in the first. BLC answered with a run in the second to even it at one all.

UMM added one in the third and one in the sixth to push its lead to 3-1. The Vikings sliced the margin to one in the seventh and used a four-run ninth-inning to claim the lead for good.

The Cougars were retired in order in the ninth to seal the sweep.

Freshman Matt Wood (West Hills, Calif.) pitched 7.0 innings and struck out six.

BLC returns to the field Tuesday when it hosts Martin Luther at 1:30 p.m.
