MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (11-13 overall, 9-4 UMAC) won both games against Martin Luther (0-19, 0-14) Tuesday, 20-2 and 23-3. Both games lasted seven innings.
The last time the Vikings scored 22 runs in a game was against North Central on May 1, 2019. The last time BLC had 20 or more runs in back-to-back games was April 21, 2009 against North Central (24-1) and April 24, 2009 against Minnesota Morris (32-0). The last time Bethany had 20 or more runs in both games of a doubleheader was on April 27, 2008 against Crown (21-16 and 24-2).
Highlights from the first game:
-Junior Dallas McBroom (Elysian, Minn.) had a career-high 16 strikeouts.
-McBroom's total was one shy of the single game school record.
-Freshman Reed Brown (St. Michael, Minn.) had an inside the park home run in the third.
-Sophomore Alec Gratz (Mankato, Minn.) had a two-run double in the fifth and a three-run homer in the sixth.
-Gratz finished a triple short of the cycle.
Highlights from the second game:
-Junior Carter Wendlandt (Minneapolis) had two two-run doubles (second and third innings) and a solo HR in the fourth
-Sophomore Hunter Pearce (Berthoud, Colo.) and Wendlandt had back-to-back two-run doubles in the third.
-Pearce had a three-run homer in the fourth.
-Wendlandt finished a triple short of the cycle.
BLC returns to the field Saturday when it travels to face Northland at 1:30 p.m.
