MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (15-13 overall, 12-4 UMAC) concluded the regular season on an eight-game winning streak with a sweep over North Central (7-16, 4-12) Friday. BLC won 9-8 and 13-2 in seven innings. The first game was the reschedule of the postponed game from April 20.
In the first game, the Vikings were the visitors on the scoreboard. The Rams knotted it at eight all in the bottom of the eighth.
In the top of the ninth, senior Tommy Gannon (Janesville, Minn.) hit a sac fly to right to score freshman Liam Peterson (Port Orchard, Wash.) for the game-winning run.
The second game was a nonconference tilt. North Central took the early 1-0 lead with a solo home run over the left field fence.
Bethany answered in the bottom of the frame as sophomore Hunter Pearce (Berthoud, Colo.) scored on a wild pitch. The game remained tied until the third when the Vikings plated three on five hits. BLC added two in the fourth to extend the margin to 6-1.
The Rams tallied their final run of the day in the fifth on an RBI groundout.
Bethany added one in the fifth and six in the sixth to push the lead to double digits. One highlight included a three-run homer by pinch hitter freshman Jackson Spencer (Coolidge, Ariz.).
The Vikings will return to competition on Thursday, May 20 at 4 p.m. against St. Scholastica in the UMAC Tournament.
