Vikings Shutout Knights

Box Score NEW ULM, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team traveled to Martin Luther on Tuesday and defeated the Knights by a score of 4-0. With the win the Vikings move to 9-2-3 overall and 6-1-1 in the UMAC while the Knights fall to 1-1-11-1 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

Bethany opened the scoring up early in this one, as Antonio Lima scored just over five minutes in to put the visitors up 1-0 off an assist from Bernardo Abreu. The Vikings were able to control possession for a majority of the half but couldn't capitalize until late. They were awarded a corner kick and Agostino Quadrio Curzio would play one near post where Aidan Whitcomb made his run and was able to head it past the keeper for a 2-0 lead just before halftime.

In the second half, Bethany was stagnant in the early going and couldn't muster much offensively. Nearly 20 minutes into the second half it was Danny Pilot who was able to get the offense on track and notch a goal with Bernardo Abreu getting another assist. The Knights defense continued to play solid and hold the high scoring offense at bay, until Lima dribbled through the defense with less than eight minutes to play and put one past the keeper to give Bethany the 4-0 victory.

Mason Steffen got the start in net and made one save in the shutout victory.

The Vikings will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Northland for a 1 p.m. contest.
