ASHLAND, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team scored three goals in a 10-minute span in the first half en rout to a 4-0 win over Northland on Friday afternoon. With the win the Vikings move to 10-2-3 overall and 7-1-1 in conference while the Jacks fall to 5-6-4 overall and 4-2-3 in the UMAC.
"A complete effort from our team today," said Head Coach Derick Lyngholm. "We executed the game plan perfectly and it was arguably our most complete effort of the year. They tried to pack it in defensively and send it long for some chances and Liam [Peterson] did really well in the back directing traffic and keeping their opportunities at a minimum."
Bethany wasn't able to get on the board in this one until the 17 minute mark but when they did they put up three goals in a hurry. It was Antonio Lima who netted the first for the Vikings with an assist going to Liam Peterson. It was then Agostino Quadrio Curzio who got in on the scoring action in the 23rd minute with no assists, before a Quadrio Curzio shot in the 26th minute was saved by the Northland keeper but Aidan Whitcomb was there for the rebound give Bethany a 3-0 first half lead.Â
The Vikings were unable to score the rest of the first half but it didn't take long in the second, as Cam Brookfield was able to net the teams final score of the day in the 49th minute with an assist going to Lima to cap off the 4-0 win. Bethany controlled the pace of the match from start to finish in a dominant effort that saw Francisco Vilarinho make just three saves in net during the match.Â
The team will be back at it again tomorrow when they take on UW-Superior in a battle for first place in the UMAC at 2:00 p.m.
