Lima Goal Sends Vikings to Top of UMAC Standings

Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. - Antonio Lima's goal in the 64th minute proved to be the difference as the Bethany men's soccer team defeated UW-Superior 1-0 to climb to the top of the conference standings. With the win the Vikings move to 11-2-3 overall and 8-1-1 in the conference while the Yellowjackets fall to 9-3-2 overall and 7-1-2 in the UMAC.

The first half was slow for both teams as neither could get going in the cold weather with Bethany outshooting Superior 11-5 in the first 45 minutes. The shots taken by both sides though weren't great opportunities as both put three on net.

In the second half, possession started to favor the Vikings, though they still didn't get a ton of great chances in the early going. It wasn't until the 64th minute that Antonio Lima took a pass from Agostino Quadrio Curzio outside the box that he fired and found the top right corner to break the stalemate and give Bethany a 1-0 lead. It was Lima's conference leading 13th goal of the season while Quadrio Curzio now has seven assists. Goalkeeper Nick Lundberg and the Viking defense continued to hold the Yellojackets at bay, and he was able to save a couple of shots off free kicks late to give the team the shutout victory.

Lundberg made six saves in the contest en rout to the clean sheet.

The Vikings are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Crown for a 5 p.m. matchup.
