ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team traveled to Crown Wednesday night and took a decisive 5-0 win over the Polars. With the win the Vikings move to 12-2-3 overall and 9-1-1 in conference while the Polars fall to 4-10-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the UMAC.
Bethany got the scoring started early in this one when Liam Peterson notched his second goal of the season just under five minutes into the contest. Eirik Hansson was then able to find the back of the net for the first time this season, as he put one home in the 18th minute to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead. The teams strong defense then held up the rest of the half, as they allowed just one shot total and none on goal.
In the second half it didn't take long for Bethany to strike as Agostino Quadrio Curzio put a goal home just 51 seconds in off an assist from Antonio Lima. The visitors would strike twice more midway through the second half, with the goals coming less than two minutes apart. Jamie Smith scored his first goal of the season in the 61st minute with an assist to Hansson, before Tomas Abreu scored in the 63rd minute with an assist to Lima.
The Vikings defense was stellar in the contest as well, as they allowed zero shots on goal in the match with Nick Lundberg getting the win in net.
Bethany is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Minnesota-Morris for a 12 p.m. start.
