Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Vikings Suffer Loss to Cougars

MORRIS, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit on Saturday as they fell to Minnesota-Morris by a score of 2-1. With the loss the Vikings fall to 12-3-3 overall and 9-2-1 in the conference while the Cougars move to 3-9-5 overall and 3-4-5 in the UMAC.

The Vikings dominated for a majority of the this game, including the first half, but couldn't muster many great scoring looks. They outshot the Cougars 14-2 in the first half including 7-1 on goal but couldn't find the back of the net. Bethany also had seven corner kick opportunities but the keeper for Morris played well and kept the game scoreless at halftime.

The Cougars took advantage of the scoreless match after halftime, scoring off a free kick after a Bethany foul in the 50th minute. Less than four minutes later, the Vikings would make an errant pass that was intercepted by the Cougars where they would immediately fire a shot from outside the box and find the top left corner of the net to take a 2-0 lead. Bethany would continue to an all out barrage of shots, but the keeper for Morris kept holding strong. The Vikings finally broke through in the 86th minute, when Liam Peterson was able to convert on a header off a pass from Danny Pilot to cut the deficit in half. The Cougars though, would hold on the last four minutes for the victory.

Nick Lundberg got the start in net, making two saves in the contest.

Bethany will be back in action for its final regular season home game on Wednesday when they host Northwestern for a 5 p.m. contest.
