Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team hosted Northwestern on Wednesday night and was able to take home a 2-0 victory. With the win the Vikings move to 13-3-3 overall and 10-2-1 in the conference while the Eagles move 4-11-3 overall and 3-7-3 in the UMAC.
The Vikings couldn't get many goal scoring opportunities early in this one as they were able to control possession but couldn't find the back of the net. Cameron Brookfield subbed in at the 24:39 mark, and less than 30 seconds later he was able to put Bethany on the board as Matteo Fustinoni played a ball up ahead to Antonio Lima who one-touched it out of the air over to Brookfield who was able to put it home for the 1-0 lead. The Vikings were able to continue their pressure late and would get a few shots on goal late but great saves by the Eagles keeper would leave the score at 1-0 going to the half.Â
In the second half, the Vikings once again were in control early and were dominating possession in the early going but couldn't find the back of the net. It wasn't until Bethany gained a corner in the 78th minute that they were able to double their lead. Following the corner Agostino Quadrio Curzio would take a shot that rebounded right to Lima who would score it for the 2-0 lead. Nick Lundberg would make a save late to hold off any last second chances as they gained the win.Â
Lundberg made four saves for the Vikings in the clean sheet victory.Â
Bethany will be back in action Saturday when they travel to North Central for a 1 p.m. contest.
