MANKATO, Minn. - Christian Edwards saw his first collegiate action Saturday afternoon and put two goals home in the second half as the Bethany men's soccer team defeated Crown 4-0. With the win the Vikings move to 8-2-3 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play while the Polars fall to 2-9-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the UMAC.
Bethany got the scoring started early in this one, as Matteo Fustinoni found Andre Silva and Silva fired a shot that was deflected into the right side of the net for the early 1-0 lead. Fustinino then got in on the scoring action in the 30th minute, as Aidan Whitcomb got a few shots off on the Polar keeper and Fustinoni would corral the second rebound and boot it home for the 2-0 lead. The Vikings would hold their lead into the half as they put eight shots on net to just two from Crown in the first 45 minutes.
After missing the first half of the season to injury, Christian Edwards made his collegiate debut in the second half of this one and was able to score his first career goal after some nice combination play from Gijs van Eldik and Antonio Lima in the 68th minute. Just three minutes later, Edwards would score again as Lima found him open and Edwards would fire past the Polar keeper for the 4-0 Viking lead which they would hold onto for the victory.
Nick Lundberg made the start in net and made three saves in the victory.
Bethany will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Martin Luther for a 1 p.m. contest.
