Softball Drops Both Games Sunday

MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (2-2 overall) fell in both games Sunday at its own Bethany Kwik Trip Invitational.

The Vikings lost 7-1 to St. Catherine and 4-2 to St. Olaf.

The Wildcats jumped to a 2-0 lead on a two-run single and doubled the margin the next inning on another two-run single.

Senior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) ended the shutout as she drove in junior Elizabeth Cizek (Wheaton, Ill.) from second on a single to leftfield.

St. Catherine tallied three in the fourth to push the margin to 7-1.

Freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) led the team at the plate as she went 2-2 with a double.

The finale was scoreless until the Oles scored three in the top of the fifth.

An RBI double from junior Bailey Erlandson (Woodbury, Minn.) and an RBI single from Mork in the bottom of the frame sliced the margin to one (3-20).

In its next at-bats, St. Olaf answered with a solo home run off the ceiling in left centerfield to make it 4-2.

Senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) went 3-3 and Mork was 2-4 with a double. Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) pitched another complete game and earned five strikeouts.

Bethany returns to the field next Saturday at the final weekend of this tournament against UW-River Falls at 2:15 p.m.
