Softball Splits Saturday Games

MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (3-3 overall) split its games Saturday at its own Bethany Kwik Trip Invitational.
 
The Vikings defeated UW-River Falls 8-5 and fell 10-2 in six innings to UW-Eau Claire.
 
Against the Falcons, BLC took the early 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI groundout from freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia) and an RBI single from senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.).
 
Senior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) doubled the lead in the next inning on her two-run double to centerfield.
 
River Falls got on the scoreboard in the top of the third on an RBI double to right. Ambrose drove in pinch runner freshman Jade Krenik (St. Charles, Minn.) from second on her single to right.
 
In the next inning, the Falcons added one on an RBI single down the leftfield line to make it 5-2.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, pinch hitter junior Liz Milam (Le Sueur, Minn.) drove in freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) and Ambrose on her single to push the score to 7-2.
 
UWRF plated two runs in the sixth to slice the margin to 7-5. Mork had her second double of the day in the bottom of the inning which drove in Kinakin to extend the lead to 8-5.
 
Kinakin went 2-4 with two RBI and a double. Mork was 2-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Ambrose was 2-2 with one run and two RBI. Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) pitched the complete game and fanned a career-high 12.
 
In the nightcap, the Blugolds took the early 2-0 lead in the first. They added three on a three-run double to center in the next inning.
 
Ambrose ended the shutout on her run in the second to make it 5-1.
 
UWEC added one in the fourth on an RBI triple and four in the sixth to extend the advantage to 10-1.
 
Ambrose went 2-2 with one run and a double.
 
Bethany returns to the field tomorrow at the final day of this tournament against UW-Stout at 7 a.m.
