Softball Splits Sunday’s Games, Senne Throws No-Hitter

MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (4-4 overall) split its games Sunday to conclude its own Bethany Kwik Trip Invitational.

The Vikings defeated UW-Stout 9-1 in five innings and fell 3-1 to No. 12 UW-Oshkosh in the finale.

The Blue Devils took the early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI groundout. BLC answered with a two-run single from freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia).

Bethany added to its margin in the third as junior Bailey Erlandson (Woodbury, Minn.) drove in senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) with her double to centerfield.

An RBI single from freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) made it 4-1. The Vikings used a five-run fifth inning which included a two-run single from senior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) to seal the mercy rule victory.

Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) pitched the complete game no-hitter. This was the fifth no-hitter in program history, and first since the 2-1 win over Finlandia on March 17, 2021.

In the finale, Doucette gave BLC the early 1-0 lead as she drove in junior Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) on her sacrifice fly in the first.

The Titans tied it in the second on a sac fly of their own. UW-Oshkosh scored the go-ahead run in the fifth on an RBI single and added another run on a consecutive single.

Halbach, Mork and freshman Olivia Fritz (Le Sueur, Minn.) all went 1-3.

Senne pitched another complete game.

The Vikings return to action Sunday, March 6 against Marietta on their Spring Break trip.
