Softball Opens Florida Trip with a Win

Box Score CLERMONT, Fla.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (5-4 overall) defeated Marietta (1-2) 5-4 Sunday to open its Florida trip. The second game of the day was cancelled due to a lack of umpires.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Pioneers took the 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) hit a two-run triple to left centerfield to tie it up. She scored the go-ahead run as she stole home.

Marietta reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer over the right centerfield fence to make it 4-3.

The Vikings knotted it again in the seventh as sophomore Haley Stockman (Mankato, Minn.) drove in pinch runner freshman Jolyne LeClair (Nore-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba) on her single to centerfield. Sophomore Ana Christofferson (Mankato, Minn.) scored the game-winning run on a throwing error by the Pioneers.

Junior Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) went 3-3 at the plate and added two stolen bases.

Bethany returns to the field tomorrow at 4:15 p.m. (ET) against St. Mary's College (IN).
