TUCSON, Ariz. – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (3-6 overall) split the doubleheader against Concordia Wisconsin. The Vikings won the opener 15-2 but fell 5-0 in the finale.
BLC plated five in its first which included four RBI singles.
The Falcons tallied their only two runs in their first at-bats on an RBI triple and RBI single.
Bethany added seven in the fifth which included a two-run single from junior Vaughn Pouncy (St. Paul, Minn.) The Vikings added their final three in the seventh.
Pouncy went 3-5 with a career-high four RBIs and two runs. Junior Matt Verdugo (Arvada, Colo.) was 3-4 with two RBIS and a run scored. Senior Ross Beumer (Northfield, Minn.) was 2-3 with three runs and two RBIs, and freshman Malachi Santiago (Gilbert, Ariz.) was 2-4 with two runs.
Classmate Gavin Jacobsen (Jackson, Minn.) earned the win as he struckout six and Carter Benz (Wabasso, Minn.) got the save and fanned four.
The second game was scoreless until the fourth when CUW got on the board with a two-run double. The Falcons added to their lead in the fifth with another two runs and plated one more in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-0.
Senior Jake LaBerge (Round Rock, Texas) broke up the no-hitter with his single to second in the fifth.
Classmate Adam Fjerstad (Hayfield, Minn.) had eight strikeouts.
The Vikings return to the field next Saturday when they host Buena Vista in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
