MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (9-6 overall) split the twinbill against Gustavus Adolphus (2-4) Wednesday night. The Gusties claimed the opener 8-2, and the Vikings won the finale 5-4.
Highlights in the first game included a single by senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) to break up the no-hitter in the fifth, and a two-run double from freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia) in the seventh.
In the final game, BLC took the early 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) and an RBI groundout from sophomore Haley Stockman (Mankato, Minn.).
The Gusties plated one in the second, but the Vikings added two more in the bottom of the frame on an RBI groundout from junior Elizabeth Cizek (Wheaton, Ill.) and an RBI single from senior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia).
Gustavus drove in three in the fourth to knot the game at four all. This remained the score until the sixth when Mork picked up her second RBI of the contest as she drove in Kinakin from first base on her double to deep right field for the go-ahead run.
Kinakin finished 2-3 with two runs and an RBI. Mork was 2-4 with two RBIs. Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) earned the win in the circle as she went the distance and fanned eight in the outing.
