ST. JOSEPH, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (9-8 overall) fell in both games of the doubleheader to No. 22 Saint Benedict Saturday, 3-0 and 6-4.
This was the second Top 25 opponent the Vikings have faced this season.
In the opener, the Bennies took the early 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run double, and plated their final run on a sac fly in the fourth.
Senior Alyssa Kosta (Redding, Calif.) broke up the no-hitter with her single in the second. She finished 1-3 at the plate and went the distance in the circle with five strikeouts.
In the finale, BLC had the 3-0 lead in the third, thanks in part to a two-run double by freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD).
St. Ben's regained the 4-3 lead in the fourth, before the Vikings evened it in the on a sac fly from freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia).
The Bennies scored the go-ahead run in the fifth on an RBI single and plated one more in the sixth on a passed ball.
Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) pitched the complete game and fanned six in the outing, and Mork went 2-4.
Bethany returns to the field next Sunday against UW-Stout for its home opener at 2 p.m.
