Softball Remains Undefeated on Florida Trip

Box Score CLERMONT, Fla.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (6-4 overall) defeated St. Mary's (IN) (0-3) 4-2 Monday afternoon. The second game of the day was cancelled due to weather.

The Vikings jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first as freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) sacrificed in junior Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa), and senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) drove in classmate Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) on her groundout to short.

The Belles sliced the lead to one in their next at-bats as they scored on an RBI groundout of their own.

In the third, sophomore Haley Stockman (Mankato, Minn.) stole third and took advantage of a throwing error and scampered home. Junior Elizabeth Cizek (Wheaton, Ill.) crossed the plate in the sixth to make 4-1.

St. Mary's looked to compile a late rally, as it scored on a single through the right side with two outs, to bring the score to 4-2. The Belles had runners on first and second, but the next batter hit into a fielder's choice and the lead runner was forced out to end the comeback.

Junior Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) and freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia) each went 2-3.

Bethany is off from competition tomorrow, and returns to the field Wednesday against Capital at 1:45 p.m. (ET).
