TUCSON, Ariz. – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (2-1 overall) split its games on the first day of the Arizona trip. The Vikings defeated Wheaton (Ill.) 15-8 but fell to Buena Vista 10-7.
Highlights against the thunder included a two-run triple from Hunter Pearce (Berthoud, Colo.) in the fourth, a two-run double from junior Matt Verdugo (Arvada, Colo.) in the fifth, and a three-run double from Santiago in the ninth.
This was the first win against Wheaton in series history.
Against the Beavers, Pearce had an RBI double in the second and senior Ross Beumer (Northfield, Minn.) had a two-run triple in the sixth.
BV used an eight-run eighth inning to capture the lead.
BLC returns to the field tomorrow against Emerson at 10 a.m. (MT).
