MANKATO, Minn.—Head Bethany Lutheran softball coach Dan Nessler earned his 100
th career victory in the sweep over North Central Monday.
The Vikings (16-11 overall, 6-2 UMAC) won the opener 10-1 in six innings and claimed the finale 8-0 also in six innings.
In the first game, BLC tallied four in the first, which included the first collegiate homerun by freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia).
The Rams used a solo round tripper of their own in the second inning to get on the scoreboard.
Bethany added three in the fourth and a three-run homer by Doucette in the sixth sealed the shortened win.
Senior Alyssa Kosta (Redding, Calif.) was a perfect 3-3 at the plate. Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) went the distance in the circle and had a career-high 13 strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Vikings got on the scoreboard in the second on an RBI single from senior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia).
Kinakin had another RBI single in the fourth and the next batter Mork, slugged a two-run triple down the rightfield like to take the 4-0 lead.
Junior Elizabeth Cizek (Wheaton, Ill.) scored in the fifth and Mork hit a leadoff homer in the sixth to make it 6-0.
Sophomre Brynja Mielke (Sleepy Eye, Minn.) drove in senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) on her single to short and classmate Haley Stockman (Mankato, Minn.) drove in Cizek on her single to left for the second walkoff of the day.
Mork was a perfect 3-3 with as many RBIs, and Kosta pitched the complete game and fanned three.
Bethany returns to action on the road Wednesday as it travels west for a twinbill against Martin Luther at 3:30 p.m.
