Bethany Lutheran Sets New Season Record in Stolen Bases in Sweep of Knights

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW ULM, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team Vikings (18-11 overall, 8-2 UMAC) set a new season record in stolen bases in the sweep over Martin Luther Wednesday. The Vikings have 82 stolen bases to date which surpasses the previous record of 70 set last season.
 
BLC won 18-2 and 21-1 in five innings.
 
Highlights from the first game included a two-run single from freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia) in the first inning, a three-run double from senior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) in the third, and a two-run triple from sophomore Haley Stockman (Mankato, Minn.) in the fourth.
 
Junior Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) was 3-4 with three runs, Kinakin was 2-4 with three runs and four RBIs, senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) was 2-5 with four RIBs, and Doucette was 1-3 with three RBIs.
 
Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) earned her 12th win of the season in the circle and fanned four.
 
In the finale, Ambrose put the Vikings on the board with her two-run triple to left centerfield in the first.
 
Other highlights involved a two-run triple to right centerfield by Kinakin in the second, freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) had a three-run homer to left in the third, and sophomore Liz Milam (Le Sueur, Minn.) had a three-run double down the left field line in the fifth.
 
Kinakin was 2-2 with four RBIs, Mork was 2-2 with four runs and four RBIs, Ambrose was 2-4 with two RBIs, freshman Olivia Fritz (Le Sueur, Minn.) was 3-4 with three runs, and Milam was 1-3 with four RBIs.
 
Senior Alyssa Kosta (Redding, Calif.) earned the win in the circle.
 
Bethany is off from competition until next Tuesday when it travels to face league leader Northwestern at 3:30 p.m.
