Halbach Breaks Season Record as Vikings Split With Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROSEVILLE, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (19-12 overall, 9-3 UMAC) split with Northwestern (13-8, 7-1) Tuesday. The Eagles won the first game 7-4, but the Vikings claimed the nightcap 8-5.

In the finale, junior Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) broke the 14-year old season record in stolen bases. The previous mark was 15 set by Brittany Schlomer in 2008.

Highlights from the first game included a single to left in the third by freshman Kaitlyn Doucette (Quesnel, British Columbia) to break up the no hitter.

A two-run double by pinch hitter junior Madisen Borek (Redding, Calif.) in the fifth plated the first runs for BLC. Doucette hit a two-run single in the sixth to make it 7-4.

Freshman Olivia Fritz (Le Sueur, Minn.) went 2-2 at the plate. Doucette was 2-3 and senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) was 2-4.

In the finale, the Vikings used a four-run first inning to jump to an early lead.

Doucette later hit a solo shot over the centerfield fence in the fifth.

The Eagles had bases load with two outs and the potential winning run at the plate. That batter flew out to right field to seal the win for Bethany.

The Vikings return to competition Friday against North Central at 10 a.m. in the first weekend of the UMAC Crossover.
