ROSEVILLE, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (21-12 overall, 11-3 UMAC) won both games in the first day of the UMAC Crossover Tournament. BLC defeated North Central 12-4 in five innings and defeated Northwestern 4-3.

Highlights against North Central included freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) breaking the season record in RBIs as she had three to have 37 on the year. The previous record was 34 set by Haylee Sobrero in 2019.

Mork finished 3-4 at the plate with a double, a home run, and three RBIs.

Junior Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) was a perfect 4-4 with three runs.

The score of the second game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Eagles used an RBI double to take 1-0 lead.

UNW would score one more in that frame and added one in the top of the fifth for the 3-0 lead.

Bethany answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to claim the 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles had runners on second and third with two outs. The next batter grounded out to end the potential rally.

Freshman Kayla Senne (Northwood, Iowa) pitched the complete game and fanned 10.

The Vikings return to competition tomorrow against Crown at 10 a.m. to complete the first weekend of the UMAC Crossover.
