Seven-Run Seventh Keys Vikings to Series Win

MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (7-8 overall, 3-1 UMAC) closed out its weekend series against Minnesota Morris (10-9, 1-3) with a 9-3 Sunday matinee victory.

Senior Adam Fjerstad (Hayfield, Minn.) gave the Vikings a quality start with his six innings pitched and two runs allowed. He had six strikeouts and only gave up five hits.

With the game tied at 2-2, the BLC bats came alive in the seventh inning to produce seven runs on seven hits, including a pair of two-RBI singles from junior Vaughn Pouncy (Saint Paul, Minn.) and freshman Malachi Santiago (Gilbert, Ariz.)

Senior Alex Kreiling (Sartell, Minn.) picked up his first win of the season as he pitched two innings, allowing one run. Classmate Conor Merton (Perth, Australia) tossed a perfect ninth frame to secure the series win over the Cougars.

Santiago went 3-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Pouncy and junior Ben Hopper (North Mankato, Minn.) each collected two hits and drove in two runs.

Senior Jake LaBerge (Round Rock, Tex.) had a two-RBI day, and classmate Ross Beumer (Northfield, Minn.) registered two hits.

The Vikings take to the road Friday, April 8 to begin a three-game series with Wisconsin Superior. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
