MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany men's soccer team hosted Dordt in a non-conference contest Saturday and the team's played 90 minutes of scoreless soccer to come to a 0-0 draw. With the result the Vikings are now 2-0-2 on the year while the Defenders move to 2-2-2.
Although the game was scoreless, it was far from uneventful. The two teams played back-and-forth early, trading shots but not mustering many great chances. Each team only had one shot on net in the first half and each goaltender made the save.
In the second half, the cards started coming out as Bethany was called for six cards total in the final 41 minutes of play. A red card on the Vikings put them a man down with 27 minutes remaining, but Francisco Vilarinho and the Bethany defense played hero. Vilarinho made multiple tough saves to keep the Defenders out of the net as the two teams played to a scoreless draw.
Vilarinho made seven saves in the contest including a handful in the waning moments to keep the game scoreless.
The Vikings will next be in action on Thursday when they head to UW-Eau Claire for a 7 p.m. contest.
