MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team scored first Friday against UW-Superior but four straight goals would prove to much as the visitors prevailed 4-2. With the loss the Vikings move to 3-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the UMAC while Superior moves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference.
Antonio Lima would get the party started early for the Vikings, taking a pass from Eirik Hansson and pushing it past the Superior keeper just under 10 minutes into the game to give the home team the early lead. Midway through the first period momentum started to push the Yellowjackets way and they were able to push through for a goal in the 29th minute. They wouldn't stop there though as a pair of corner kicks would give them good opportunities in the 39th and 41st minute in which they would convert both as they took a 3-1 lead into the half.
As the second half began, a foul right outside Bethany's box gave Superior a free kick that they would knock home to extend their lead to 4-1. The Vikings would answer the Superior goal with one of their own, as Lima played a cross into the feet of Bryan Jaimes who spun and pushed one in off his back heel to cut the deficit to two. The Vikings would get a red card in the 64th minute and had to play the final 26 a man down, but fought late and put a handful of shots on net before falling 4-2.
Francisco Vilarinho got the start in net for the Vikings and made four saves while allowing four goals.
Bethany will be back at it tomorrow when they host Northland for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
