ASHLAND, Wis. - The Bethany women's volleyball team Friday took a 3-0 loss to Northland to open their weekend. With the loss the Vikings fall to 3-9 overall and 1-1 in conference while the LumberJills move to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the UMAC.
This match started out big time in Northlands favor as the home team took the first set in dominating fashion 25-10. In the second set the Vikings would get out to an early 15-9 lead but couldn't hold on, as the Jills came back to score 16 of the last 23 points to take the set 25-22. The third and final set played in the advantage of Northland early as they held leads of 6-2, 15-8, and 18-11, but Bethany would show some life as they went on a 4-1 run to cut the deficit to four. After Northland was able to retake a 22-15 lead, the Vikings would score six of the next seven points to trim the lead to 23-21. Bethany was able to score once more late but a pair of LumberJill kills ended the set 25-22 and match 3-0.
Lex Morsching led the Vikings in the contest with seven kills while Maddie Meyer had five. Callista Weber had 10 digs for Bethany in the match, while Paloma Garcia de Fuentes added a team-best three service aces and nine set assists.Â
The Vikings are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they face off with UW-Superior.Â
