Women's Soccer Posts Shutout Victory Over Northland

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany women's soccer team Saturday hosted Northland and took home a decisive 2-0 victory. With the win the Vikings climb to 3-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference while the LumberJills falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in UMAC play.

It didn't take long for the Vikings to find the back of the net in this one. In the ninth minute, Mia Johnson played a ball to Olaitz Azkue who found Mia Saulter on the right side of the box and Saulter was able to put one past the Northland keeper for the early 1-0 lead. The Vikings kept firing shots on net in the first half but the LumberJill keeper held strong. It wasn't until Elena Luján Rubio worked her magic again that the Vikings would double their lead. It came in the 34th minute as Saulter played one ahead to Luján Rubio who didnt' seem to have a shot on net but fired anyways and was able to find the top left corner for her second miraculous goal in as many matches.

The teams played to halftime scoreless and the second half proved to be a back-and-forth battle with Bethany putting more shots on net but Northland starting to generate little bits of offense. Brooke Wolanin stood tall in net though as the junior keeper was able to save all eight shots fired on her during the game to take home the 2-0 win.

The Vikings will next be in action on Thursday when they host North Central for a 5 p.m. contest.
